B-TEAM WRITE UP

SUN Dream Team Star Player : Hos with two superb games.

After the huge disappointment of last week’s loss, we were hoping to get back on track away to the Ex Servs D. It wasn’t a very encouraging start as we soon realised that we were not going to see Moysie, Gallly or Yiddo to add to the already missing Bungle who was this weeks Christmas Party Animal. A quick head count and we realised we only had 8 players including Kingy who was back from Bahrain and hadn’t played all season and me who still has only one leg.

The draw done, we started with myself and Hos so I thought I had better let him throw first to get us away. After that plan failed miserably I was pleased to actually get us away with 72. Hos proceeded to play a superb game with a 137 and a couple of tons and we were 1 up. We were followed on by the Legend, without his regular partner Bungle, paired with Clint. This was a good pairing and played a steady game but couldn’t finish and it was soon 1-1. The third game saw Wally and Kingy lose so it was up to Oz and Shoot em up to try and get us level. They spent several darts trying to start but managed to catch up well to have a shot at a 54 finish. Six darts later they had managed to leave a double! The finishing was a tense affair but Dave even found time to rehearse his famous spin-into-a-handshake (alright so you thought it was in and it was close) before finally hitting the double to take us level at 2-2.
So to the singles and Kingy (I’m not playing last, I can’t play last, I’m not playing if I’m last, have a word and try and change it) realised he was on last. Before that it was up to Hos to kick us off and he played another great game to get us 3-2 ahead. Next on was the Legend that is Goochy and despite complaining about his arm all night (apparently aliens had abducted him in his sleep the night before and taken him to their spaceship where they conducted an experiment by removing the bones and muscles and replacing them with a soft pliable rubber-like compound) he played a very good game to take us 2 ahead. Next up was Wally who had a game of two halves. He went off like a train with a 75 start and a 135 and kept it going well until he got below 100 and then got de-railed. His opponent came back well to win and there was only one in it again. Ozzie was next but his opponent played well with a 72 finish and it was all square. The next two games saw Clint Tyler struggle to get started but then come back really well to take us ahead again and Shoot em up play a good game with a quick finish to give us a 6-4 lead. Normally we would be feeling confident at this stage but then we realised our last two players were me on one leg and Darren (I’m not playing last, I can’t play last, I’m not playing if I’m last, have a word and try and change it) King on last! Armed with a convenient chair to sit down between throws (would have been easier playing Matty Hook as I would have had longer rests) and Wally acting as my runner to take the darts out of the board, I managed to get away straight away and, aided by an opponent who took pity on me by not starting for a while, I managed to scrab a win to get us to 7-4 up. Kingy then went on last and pushed his opponent all the way eventually losing a double one marathon. All things considered we were chuffed with this result which still keeps us going along nicely.

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and I’ll be back in January.

Next game is the KO Cup on Jan 2nd at the Ole Frank versus the Red House.

See you soon Quiff

A-TEAM WRITE UP

DREAM TEAM STAR MAN
SMASHER GEORGE
(NOT SAYING MUCH!)

Still going strong at the top of the league boys with the Pot Black 'B' hot on our tails. A great win against the Hearts of Oak last game meant we were brimming full of confidence going into the match against our nemesis team the Marquis of Lorne!

Last time out we managed to scrape a 7 - 5 victory with the opposition players not even staying to have their sandwiches! No chance of us doing that as . . . .
1/ we're made up of mainly large and obese (me) people.
2/ the food is always fantastic
3/ we're not sore losers

Me and Skip (Craig) discussed the doubles pairings before the draw and concluded the same pairings which would hopefully earn us a 3 - 1 lead after the doubles!!! We managed to secure the 3 - 1 lead which was more than fair, but with the first two matches being clinched on double 1 we made it hard work for ourselves!!!

Well 3 - 1 looked good and the doubles had worked out as we had planned! Maybe we would need 4 - 0 as the night progressed!

With Serious (Matt), Skip and Cobby (Me) on first three matches it seemed like the night could only get better for us especially as the Marquis were missing a few of their regular players!!!

CRASH
BANG
WALLOP

Oh dear the score now read 3 - 4 and it was to the Marquis as we lost all three matches. Liquids (Kelvin) was up next and his recent form went out the window as he was also despatched to make it 5 - 3 to the home side and all we could do was laugh at ourselves or we'd have to kill each other!!! We should have won three of the four singles matches but bad doubling out meant we were in trouble!

The star performer from this campaign, Smasher (Craig G), was next and got things rolling again with a 15 dart leg and the score now stood at 5 - 4. A very ordinary game next from Sheepy (Spence) saw the home team secure the draw with Dunston (Al) and the Snatch-u-ral (Ed) to follow.

A very tidy game under pressure from Dunston meant we'd pegged it back to 6 - 5. Dunston was not impressed that he wasn't offered a drink straight after the match and made sure the noise levels for the last match were well in favour of the away team! - Quote of the night from Dunston - "What's he going to do?... Start on me! Don't make me laugh"

Last match and a very crucial point for us! The Snatch-u-ral vs. Graham Pavey! The home team were shocked just as much as we were when the usually non playing captain (Pavey) scored successive 100's to heap the pressure on Ed! Finally Ed had tidied up the leg to leave a double with Pavey back on 93 which no one gave him a chance on! Next followed . . . . . . 20 . . . . . . . T19 . . . . . . $hit. . . . .oooooo! Thank god it all got to much for him as the dart sailed wide of double 8! Ed was right on the mark next throw to take a point which seemed unlikely halfway through the evening!

That point may play a vital part to the season as it nears to a close next spring!

Lets get back on it next week boys and get those legs up as best we can. We might need them later in the year!

NOTICES
Well done to Ben Williams for passing two ICAEW exams. Only the case study to go now buddy!
Liquids, thanks for driving me this week in the absence of GOTTSFREECABS!
Works parties on Friday nights should be banned for next year guys (PH/Bardy).
Nath (stop enjoying yourself) Hart was up Broadview that evening. He was trying to grow some hair and look ridiculous! In my opinion he reminded me of Gordon Durrie! That's for the pint of Guinness, but enough is enough!!!!

B-TEAM WRITE UP

Well I suppose we knew we would come a cropper sooner or later and this was the week, at home against the Marquis B. Did the wheel come off?

Oh yes, it came off, bounced 6 times and rolled a mile down the road. This was our version of the old classic Bullseye. Not so much “smashing, lovely, super, great” as “shocking, woeful, useless, shite”. With Ozzie away on Christmas party duties, Gally off sick and Moysie still to enter the building at 8-25, I had got to the point where I had borrowed Stridey’s darts and was practising throwing balanced on one leg (the wrong one) thinking I would be playing. Moysie then turned up to give us eight but four games of doubles later and I was starting to think I should have played anyway! First game saw Little Joe Hoskin and Wally struggle to find form in a tame opener. Despite this, they still had four darts at a double but lost out to take us one nil down. Not too worried yet with Bungle and the legend up next but, after a strong start to the game, they tailed off and lost as well. Third game saw the in form Clint Tyler partnered with Shoot em up but instead of the Gun Fight at the OK Corral it more like the Bun Fight at the OK Tea Room, a fairly mediocre game and inability to finish and Clint and Shoot em up were shot down. Could we salvage the last game with Eagle Eyes and Yiddo? No. Despite a second 180 of the season from Moysie (which took the three dart averages for the leg up to about 26) they were unable to win and we were 4-0 down.

With a huge mountain to climb we needed a good start to the singles and we got it thanks to Bungle. Bill played our outstanding game of the night by a country mile with a dart at double 16 for a 15 dart leg. Unfortunately he didn’t hit it but held on for a great win. Wally was next up and was unlucky to lose before Eagle Eyes Moyse also went down without really hitting form. Little Joe then played a good game to get us back to 6-2 but it was all over when first the Legend became a myth, then the Yid became uncharacteristically generous to leave us 8-2 down. All that was left was to try and save face and our western duo didn’t disappoint. First Shoot em up then Clint with two good games left us with a more respectable scoreline of 8-4. A very disappointing week after what had been an excellent run after the turn. It was just that sort of night. Still, don’t let the heads go down boys, we are still in a great position. Lets get it back on track next week against Ex Servs (D I think).

See you soon Quiff.

A V'S HEARTS OF OAK

I know what you're all thinking . . . . . .

1/ Thank god Linx is back on the Blog!
2/ What happened in the second episode of the fantasy facebook wedding?
3/ What happened in the final episode of Gavin and Stacey?

Darts this week saw us hosting the Hearts of Oak (Old Tramways).

With a taxi at 20:15 I managed to get to darts in time to steal someone's place in the singles!

It seemed that my appearance was not that welcomed when you saw me playing in the first doubles with Bardy (Dan) as I was absolutely toilet! Bardy was excellent with 140 and 137 back to back before I sneaked in the double to go 1 - 0. Now I can have my second pint to calm the shakes!

After my game I tried to help out the Skip (Craig) by filling in the card! First name down on the card in the wrong order made the skip write out a new card!!! - Smasher George also made a hash of the book when he used it as a beer mat and saturated a whole page!

Other doubles matches followed before we sealed a 3 - 1 lead going into the singles.

Singles matches on the whole were very good this week. Solid performances from Cobby (me), Bardy, Sheepy (Spence) and Smasher and decent matches from Serious 121, 140 and Liquids (Kelvin) 125, 135, 139 before taking out a 17 dart leg (missed a 14 darter). That now makes it two 30 ave's jellied in a week, when young Liquids managed a MOM for the Norfolk County side with a 28+ ave. Well done me ole mucker!

Losers in the singles were Dunston (Al) and Weekend (Paul). Weekend was obviously the most unluckiest player in the world again this week or was it that his facebook status had changed to . . . . "In Love" !

Final result was a very respectable 9 - 3. Keep this going lads!

OTHER NEWS

a) The final episode of Gavin and Stacey was not shown on TV as there was a writers strike so the stars of the show parted company!

b) Wedding plans are no closer this week for the face book pairing. Lets hope for mine, Fluffs and Weekends sake he decides to come to darts and not go to a party in Caister or were getting home on our own!!!

They did enjoy the OCS gig we went to on Monday. I sang every song really badly and made a fantastic impression on Lauren. Especially on the way home when I slated most of the music on her Ipod! Lets just Hope Gottsy final cooks you a decent meal rather than his takeaways!

c) Home team perogative so the liar dice were out! Can only remember getting to the final with Weekend and he managed some ridiculous hand (Like he did all night) to kipper me up in the final! He did give me my pound back for the second game. Not sure who won the second game or whether I was already talking about the second game. We had a good laugh though!

Single doubles and trebles have now been drawn (by Fluffy) and will be played off in the coming weeks. Good luck guys!

B-TEAM WRITE UP 5/12/08

Another week, another match and a visit to Kirkley Sports and Social Club. Always a difficult place to visit not aided by the overall feeling that the heating had been switched off in favour of air conditioning! An interesting week of good darts and new nicknames started with the first pairing of Paul (Fester) Gallagher and Steve (Yiddo) Northfield. A quick start was supported by Paul in inspired form seemingly unable to miss the 20. Three consecutive throws of 60 and a 125. Paul was in such a scoring zone that he even managed to score 74 when he only needed 40! (a wide into a 1, another wide into a 16 and a treble 19). The boys had played well and Steve stepped up for 23 only needing to hit a 7, 19 or 3 to leave a good double. Doing it his own way he hit a 17, leaving an awkward double 3 but Fester rounded off an excellent personal game by taking it straight out. Next up was the dream team of Bungle and Mother Gooch with a change of tactics this week. A great 116 start from Bill, a good game down the board and a quick double out from Trev took us to 2 up. They were followed by Eagle Eyes Moyse and the first new nickname of the night – Paul (Clint) Tyler. For so long he has been the man with no nickname, (man with no name, Clint Eastwood). He doesn’t seem to mind this but is concerned that we spell it right (don’t miss the n out!). This proved to be a terrific battle with Kim Buckingham and Peter Baldry with Paul hitting score of 121 and 125 before Steve finished on 60. Last doubles was Shoot em up and Ozzie (mincer) [hence the pink wrting]. Yes I know this is another new nickname and one he does not seem quite so happy with but you should have seen the walk back from the toilet, a sort of power mince cross between Peter Kay’s Amarillo and Julian Clary! Unfortunately they struggled to start and couldn’t recover so the score went to 3-1. First up in the singles was Shoot em up who took us to 4-1 by taking advantage of his opponent’s slow start and hitting a 140 and a 54 finish. Clint was next and yet another solid leg from our most in-form player hitting a 140 on the way. Mincer (got to refine this nickname) was next and after I decided to go out and stop watching again, he clicked into gear finishing 117 in 5 darts (he threw 6 but one was out of the board between the t20 and the t17). Mother Gooch was up next and despite a prediction from his partner, Mystic Bill, that he would play a good game and not be able to finish, he played well to beat Kim Buckingham. Next up was Little Joe (Hos, Bonanza, Little Joe – you probably need to be an old git to get the link) with another fine win and a 140 and all this drinking orange juice! Wally was next but unable to replicate recent form lost the leg (mind you his opponent played well, he did play well, he was good, he played well, ok we get it!). Eagle eyes Moyse then went on and joined the nights 140 club and even felt confident enough to try a bit of showboating by going treble 9 double 9 for 45. Of course he didn’t get it but he held on to win the leg. Last up was Bungle Bennett. On a night when we had a new nickname of Clint, we’d had the Good (Paul Gallagher) we’d had the Bad (come on Wally it wasn’t that good even if your opponent played well, he did play well, he was good) now it was time for the Ugly. Haven’t got a clue what he was doing but he doesn’t normally throw for 20’s and hit 2 12’s. Our visiting patron the (Darren) King of Bahrain summed it up with comment “even if he threw a pitchfork he would still hit a 1”. Needless to say he lost the leg against a good opponent but this still left us with a fine 9-3 win. I have to say this was the best team performance of the season so far, 10 high scores and quick finishing all night. We now have 6 points out of 6 for the first three games of the second half, 4 more than we had at the same stage in the first half. Lets keep it going boys and see if we can have a great season. One final point, my ability to write the report was nearly hampered by inability to see the board due to my own team blocking the view (I cant stand up) On numerous occasions I had to move them out of the way, as Bill pointed out a bit like parting the Red Sea. I feel another nickname coming on.
All the best MOSES

B-TEAM WRITE UP

Hi darts fans its Captain Long John here with an update from our latest game. Friday saw us entertain the Ex Servs B (astute readers will notice i had suggested we were away to the D, i blame the drugs!). The game started with an opening doubles from our dream team of Bungle and Mother Gooch (or should that be Mother Magoo after Trev revealed he was seriously visually challenged just before the game). In their pre game team talk they discussed the tactics for the night and decided to play really well down the board to give themselves enough time to still win if they couldn't get near hitting the finishing double. This tactic has worked for them before and proved to be right again on Friday as a very good scoring game was followed by about 20 darts at a double before finally getting us to 1 up. This was followed by Moysie and Paul Tyler getting us to 2-0 with a first dart finish. Next up were Ozzie and Shoot em up with a bit of an up and down game and Dave showing us a new way to go for 122, (how many of you would start with a treble 13) but recovered superbly to leave 36 which Oz hit straight away for 3 up. The last pair were Hos and Wally, the latter making a rare appearance in two games in one night after more practice darts than the entire A Team put together! After a slow start (was Wally upset that they got his name wrong in the paper for his high score during his win last week, assuming he must be related to Les and Glynn WHALL) the game got going but not without controversy. Our chalker accused of not telling the opponents when they had hit the starting double (mind you Oz, where was the caller). They recovered quickly enough and won the game to get it back to 3-1. It was soon 3-2 as Moysie lost the opening singles but we then won three on the spin with Mother Gooch (its a waste of time me playing twice in one night as i only ever play well once) playing his second good game of the night and finishing 1st dart. This was followed by Oz proving my theory about watching him as he was great to start (while i was out having a fag) and then went to rat shit when i came back in but somehow holding on for a win. Next up was Shoot em up, well i did say on the spin and there it was after another 1 dart finish. Hos was next but was well beaten by a good opponent as was Wally 2 games later. Between these was another fine game from Lurch Tyler with a superb 96 finish getting us the win. Last on was Bungle but i missed it and only have the comments on my notes to go by. Three words "F%!?ing, Brill and Tw@. Ill let the reader decide which appears most likely! A fine 8-4 win another two points and we're still going strong. Next week we are away to the KSCSSCSCSSSC (oh you know who i mean)

See you soon

POT BLACK FLYING HIGH

Here shows a recent Festival Darts League Table, Pot Black A have taking an early advantage over bitter rivals Homeguard, but more to the point who is that in 3rd, surely not? Oh yes it is the mighty B-Side. Keep up the current form, I know personally that the A-Side are worried.
